Urs of Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib (RA) observed with traditional fervor in Srinagar
Most meaningful tribute to Sufi saint is to follow his teachings in daily life: Mirwaiz
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the annual Urs of revered Sufi saint Hazrat Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom Sahib (RA) was observed with traditional fervor in Srinagar, drawing thousands of devotees to his shrine at Koh-e-Maran (Hari Parbat).
According to Kashmir Media Service, Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib (RA), popularly known as Makhdoom Sahib and revered as the ‘Sultan-ul-Arifeen’, remains one of Kashmir’s most honored spiritual figures. The 16th-century saint continues to inspire generations, nearly five centuries after his passing.
Devotees from different parts of Kashmir thronged the shrine throughout the day to offer prayers and pay homage to the revered saint. Night-long prayers and special supplications were also held, with worshippers remaining engaged in religious observances throughout the Urs.
Traditionally, devotees visit the shrine for 12 consecutive days leading up to the main Urs day, reflecting the deep spiritual attachment of the Kashmiri people to Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib (RA).
Senior APHC leader and Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Mirwaiz Umar Farooq paid rich tributes to Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib (RA), recalling his immense contribution to the religious and spiritual life of Kashmir.
Mirwaiz said Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib (RA) devoted his life to guiding people towards Allah and promoting piety, compassion, humility, good character and service to humanity. He said the enduring reverence for the revered saint, centuries after his passing, was a testament to the lasting impact of his spiritual and reformative mission.
He stressed that the most meaningful tribute to Hazrat Makhdoom Sahib (RA) was to follow his teachings in daily lives, especially at a time when society is facing growing moral and social challenges. KMS-13S
