Heavy deployment, frisking and drone monitoring tighten siege in Kashmir
Restrictions, surveillance intensified across IIOJK ahead of India’s I-Day
Srinagar : Indian authorities have intensified restrictions, surveillance and additional deployment of forces across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir ahead of India’s Independence Day on August 15, subjecting Kashmiris to increased frisking, vehicle checks and monitoring.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian Army, paramilitary forces and police personnel have been deployed in large numbers at sensitive locations across Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley. Indian forces have intensified patrolling and area domination exercises, while random checking of vehicles and frisking of pedestrians are being carried out at various points.
The authorities have also deployed personnel in plain clothes around venues designated for August 15 functions to monitor the movement of people. Multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place around Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, the main venue for the so-called Independence Day function.
Sharpshooters have been positioned on high-rise buildings overlooking the stadium, while Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force personnel and police have been deployed at strategic locations. Drones are also being used for aerial surveillance, alongside other technical monitoring measures.
The intensified measures have further restricted civilian movement across the territory, where Kashmiris are routinely subjected to checkpoints, searches and surveillance in the name of security.
The latest restrictions come as Indian authorities prepare for August 15 celebrations amid continued militarisation of IIOJK. The heavy deployment of forces and extensive surveillance have created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the local population.
