Indian soldier’s family faces land mafia threat in UP with ruling BJP’s tacit support: Report
New Delhi : The family of an Indian soldier deployed on the Line of Control (LOC) in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has complained that they are facing threats from land mafias in Uttar Pradesh, with the tacit support of the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party governments.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Veer Bahadur Singh, posted in freezing conditions on the LOC, said his elderly parents and sisters in UP’s Deoria district have been left vulnerable to influential local elements.
Singh took his grievance to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Indian Army sent two official letters to authorities, but no effective action was taken, the report said. The report noted this is not an isolated case. Soldiers from Raebareli, Telangana, Agra and Mainpuri have also released videos alleging land grabbing, threats to their families, and police refusal to register FIRs, which clearly indicates that the culprits enjoy the BJP backing.
It highlighted a “stark contradiction” in the BJP governments’ approach, saying the same administration that carries out rapid demolition drives against minorities appears inactive or stands on the other side of the fence when a serving soldier’s family seeks protection. Official figures cited in the report claim 225 madrasas, 30 mosques and 25 mazars were demolished in border districts during anti-encroachment operations, while over 7,400 homes were demolished across India in 2024.
“Indian leaders chant ‘Jai Jawan’ before cameras, yet when soldiers’ families seek protection for their land and lives, the silence of the state machinery exposes the gulf between slogans and reality,” the report said. It added that if the state cannot protect the families of those guarding the country’s borders, government claims of “respect for the jawan” ring hollow.
