Delhi court takes cognizance of NIA chargesheet in Red Fort blast case
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday took cognizance of India’s National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) chargesheet against 13 accused in the Red Fort blast case.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Special Judge Prashant Sharma took cognizance of the 7,500-page chargesheet and fixed September 9 for further proceedings, Indian media reported.
The high-intensity vehicle-borne improvised explosive device blast near the Red Fort on November 10 last year killed 11 people and left several others injured.
The NIA filed its first chargesheet against 10 accused on May 14 this year, including the alleged main accused Dr Umer Un Nabi, who was killed in the blast. The agency subsequently filed a supplementary chargesheet against three more persons, including an absconding paediatrician, taking the total number of accused charge-sheeted in the case to 13.
The majority of those arrested in connection with the case are from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), with Kashmir watchers saying that Kashmiris have been falsely implicated in the case to malign the Kashmir freedom movement.
