Pakistan-made products sold in India despite import ban, CDSCO reveals

New Delhi: India’s apex drug regulatory body, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), has revealed that Pakistani products continue to be sold in India despite a ban on imports from the country.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the drug regulatory body has flagged two ‘Made in Pakistan’ cosmetic products — Goree Beauty Cream and Chandni Whitening Cream — being sold in India without registration certificates.
The agency said the products were available on several e-commerce platforms even though the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) had issued a notification in May last year prohibiting the import of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, directly or through any other trade route.

Drug Controller General of India Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi said the CDSCO, through tests and analysis, has verified that the said cosmetic products are have not been issued a registration certificate for import by the competent authority for sale in India. He said that for the import of cosmetics, the products must be registered with the Central Licensing Authority in accordance with prescribed rules, while a licence from the state licensing authority is mandatory to manufacture cosmetics for sale and distribution.
Social media users pointed out that the continued sale of Pakistani products despite the ban shows their popularity inside India, with many consumers citing their quality and durability as key factors behind the demand.
