Rahul Gandhi targets BJP, RSS and ECI over ‘vote theft’, calls it crime against Indian people
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that the BJP, RSS and Election Commission are involved in “vote theft”, calling it a crime against the Indian people and a direct attack on the Constitution.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Gandhi made the remarks in a post on X after an investigation by The Indian Express reported repeated objections by two of the three Election Commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, over aspects of electoral roll management, including voter deletions, additions, appeals and data management.
The ECI comprises the Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners. As per the investigation, Sandhu and Joshi formally raised objections at least 14 times over a 10-month period, including concerns over decisions they said were taken without their knowledge and changes relating to voter registration, deletion and restoration.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR), which began in Bihar in June 2025, has now resulted in more than 13 crore names being struck off draft electoral rolls across 30 States and Union Territories, according to The Indian Express. The large-scale deletions have prompted concerns among opposition parties and others over the possible exclusion of eligible voters.
