MMU condemns Imran Reza Ansari’s provocative remarks, demands legal action
Srinagar: In Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), a representative body of scholars from all Islamic schools of thought, has strongly condemned the provocative statements made by pro-India politician Imran Reza Ansari, saying his remarks aim to disrupt the territory’s sectarian harmony.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the MMU in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Imran Ansari made openly disrespectful and offensive comments regarding revered companions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The statement termed his behavior extremely condemnable and unacceptable, calling it an assault on Islamic unity, ethics, and mutual respect — principles that cannot be compromised.
The MMU stressed that this is not merely a case of differing opinions, but a deliberate conspiracy to ignite sectarian conflict within Kashmiri society. Such actions, the statement added, pose a serious threat to the long-standing atmosphere of harmony and unity maintained by generations of scholars and religious figures through dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect.
The MMU also noted that scholars from the Shia community themselves have expressed deep anguish over Imran Ansari’s statements. Prominent Shia leaders including Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosavi, Maulvi Masroor Abbas Ansari, Agha Syed Muhammad Hadi Al-Moosavi, and others have publicly distanced themselves from Ansari’s remarks, stating that such language goes against the core teachings of Islam.
The MMU demanded that authorities take immediate legal action against Imran Reza Ansari. It warned that unless he retracts his statements and offers an unconditional public apology, he will face a complete social and religious boycott. He will not be invited to any events or gatherings associated with the MMU or its affiliated organizations.
The statement urged the public not to fall prey to provocative rhetoric and called for preserving the sectarian harmony of the region.
It is worth mentioning that Imran Reza Ansari is making such inflammatory remarks at the behest of Indian agencies to harm the Kashmir freedom movement and to sow sectarian discord in the territory
