BJP slammed for its biggest betrayal by denying Statehood to IIOJK

Jammu: The National Conference has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is committing its biggest political betrayal by denying the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir the restoration of statehood despite repeated assurances.
According to Kashmir Media Service, National Conference Additional General Secretary Ajay Kumar Sadhotra addressing a public meeting at Sanan Ghat Basohli Assembly Constituency in Kathua district said, “Continued delay in statehood has gravely eroded public faith in democracy and exposed the BJP’s politics of deceit and deception.”
He said that even after the people elected a popular government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the BJP-led Indian government has chosen to retain dual control over governance, reducing the elected government to functioning with limited authority.
“The people exercised their democratic right with the hope that their mandate would be respected and their aspirations fulfilled. Instead, the BJP has weakened democratic institutions by refusing to restore full statehood and by continuing with an arrangement that politically disempowers the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir are not demanding anything out of box but it is all which the BJP government has promised inside the Parliament at the time of abrogation of 370 and also before the Supreme Court.
Sadhotra asserted that the denial of statehood is not merely an administrative issue but an assault on the dignity, identity and democratic rights of the people. He said people across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Jammu region, feel deeply disappointed after witnessing the BJP’s failure to honour its repeated commitments.
He said the growing public anger against the BJP is a natural outcome of its repeated failures and unfulfilled promises.
“People now realise that the BJP has failed in Jammu and Kashmir on every front. Whether it is restoration of statehood, democratic empowerment, protection of regional aspirations or respect for the people’s mandate, the BJP has consistently chosen political expediency over public interest,” he remarked.
