Resolution of Accession to Pakistan significant political milestone in Kashmir’s history: DFP

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has said that the Resolution of Accession to Pakistan, adopted on 19 July 1947, is a significant political milestone in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, on July 19, 1947, the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference adopted a resolution in favour of Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan. The decision was taken at a time when the partition of the Indian subcontinent was underway and Muslims constituted a clear majority in Jammu and Kashmir.

The DFP spokesperson, Advocate Arshad Iqbal, in a statement issued in Srinagar said the 19th of July serves as a reminder that the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly its Muslim majority, expressed their political aspirations regarding the future of the territory. The day symbolizes the historical, political and national aspirations of the Kashmiri people, which remain alive to this day, he added.

He said the Democratic Freedom Party also pays rich tribute to the martyrs of 13 July 1931 and to the countless martyrs, thousands of political prisoners, the injured, and their families who have made immense sacrifices in the freedom movement of Jammu and Kashmir ever since. Their unwavering commitment and sacrifices in the pursuit of freedom, justice and their fundamental political rights stand as enduring testimony to the determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and their steadfast commitment to the right to self-determination, he remarked.

The party calls upon the international community, particularly the United Nations and influential world powers, to fulfill their responsibilities in facilitating a just and peaceful resolution of the long-pending Kashmir dispute. South Asia is currently passing through an extremely sensitive and volatile phase, and the continued tensions arising from this unresolved conflict pose a serious threat not only to regional stability but also to international peace and security, he maintained.

The spokesman said the international community must, therefore, undertake meaningful and effective efforts to achieve a durable and peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute.
