Number of cancer cases in IIOJK has increased by around 11pc over past five years: ICMR
New Delhi: The estimated number of cancer cases in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has increased by around 11 per cent over the past five years, rising from 13,060 in 2021 to 14,493 in 2025, the debate informed Parliament on Friday.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, replying to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha, lower house of Indian Parliament, said the figures are based on estimates compiled under the Indian Council of Medical Research’s (ICMR) National Cancer Registry Programme (NCRP).
According to the reply, screening for oral, breast and cervical cancers is being carried out through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, with trained frontline health workers identifying and referring suspected cases for further diagnosis and treatment.
