First clear glimpse of Shabbir Shah in 10 years leaves family heartbroken
Daughter appeals for prayers, highlights prolonged detention, health concerns
Srinagar: The daughter of incarcerated senior Hurriyat leader Shabbir Ahmad Shah has made an emotional appeal for prayers for her father, highlighting his prolonged imprisonment, deteriorating health and continued separation from his family despite being granted bail.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Sehar Shabbir Shah, in a social media post, said the family had hoped Shabbir Shah would finally return home after the Indian Supreme Court granted him bail, but that expectation had not been fulfilled.
She shared what she described as the first clear photograph of her father she had seen in nearly a decade, saying that during prison visits family members were only allowed to see him through a thick glass partition and iron grills.
Sehar said the family continues to endure the pain of separation every day and expressed anguish that urgent surgeries required by her father have yet to be carried out.
Referring to Shabbir Shah’s four decades of incarceration, she said he has remained steadfast in his faith and commitment despite years of imprisonment. She appealed to people across the world to remember him in their prayers, expressing hope that justice would ultimately prevail.
Shabbir Ahmad Shah has remained one of the longest-detained Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders, and his continued incarceration has repeatedly drawn concern from political and human rights circles, who have called for his release and access to adequate medical treatment.
