IIOJK HC expresses concern over shortage of life-saving drugs in hospitals
Srinagar : The High Court of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has expressed serious concern over the shortage of life-saving drugs in hospitals and directed the Managing Director of Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMPCL) to appear in person to explain the non-supply.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice Mohammad Yousuf Wani issued the directions after taking note of affidavits filed by the Principals of Government Medical Colleges of Srinagar and Jammu.
The court was informed that the matter regarding procurement of “Factor VIII and Emicizumab” required for patients suffering from Hemophilia had been taken up with JKMPCL, but despite repeated reminders, no response was given.
“From the affidavit filed by the Principal, Government Medical College, Srinagar, it is clear that GMC Srinagar as also GMC Jammu are facing shortage rather non-availability of the medicines and are in dire need thereof,” the court observed.
The bench said it was because of the slackness on the part of JKMPCL that the issue was not being addressed and procurement of the medicines had been delayed.
