New Delhi: The Indian government has confirmed the deaths of 12 Indian nationals caught up in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, while 16 others, who had been deployed by the Russian army to fight in Ukraine, remain unaccounted for.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressed the issue in a press briefing today, providing details of the situation. He confirmed that 12 Indian nationals, who had been working with the Russian military, have lost their lives in the conflict. He also shared that 126 Indian nationals had been deployed by the Russian forces, with 96 having returned safely to India after being discharged from military service.<\/p>\n

However, Jaiswal revealed that 18 Indian nationals are still with the Russian Army, with the whereabouts of 16 of them unknown. The Russian authorities have officially classified these individuals as “missing.” In response, Jaiswal emphasized India’s efforts to seek the “early release and repatriation” of the remaining personnel.<\/p>\n

This announcement follows the death of yet another Indian national recruited by the Russian military, with another sustaining injuries in recent days.<\/p>\n

Disturbingly, earlier reports from some Indian newspapers revealed that many Indian workers were allegedly coerced into participating in the conflict. Initially recruited under the false pretense of working as “army security helpers,” these individuals were reportedly deceived by agents into joining the Russian forces.<\/p>\n
