According to Kashmir Media Service, the report, titled \u201cStop JCB\u2019s Bulldozer Genocide: A Report on Human Rights Violations in Palestine, India & Kashmir,\u201d jointly published by human rights groups including the South Asia Solidarity Group, South Asia Justice Campaign, Nijjor Manush, and South Asians for Palestine, was launched at Birkbeck College, University of London.<\/p>\n
The report condemns JCB\u2019s alleged complicity in demolition campaigns targeting vulnerable communities, asserting that the company has failed to adhere to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. It calls on JCB to sever ties with Israel\u2019s Ministry of Defence, cease operations in occupied Kashmir, and prevent its equipment from being used in activities that violate human rights. Activists from impacted regions shared harrowing testimonies during the report’s launch. Afreen Fatima, an activist from Allahabad, India, recounted the 2022 demolition of her family home, describing it as part of \u201cHindutva-led terror tactics.\u201d<\/p>\n
Palestinian activists Tamara Ezz El-Din Barbar and Sara Maher Fhedat highlighted the ongoing threat of demolitions in Silwan and other areas, with Sara sharing the story of her family home built by her late father, who was killed by Israeli forces.<\/p>\n
The report also scrutinizes JCB owner Anthony Bamford’s ties to the UK Conservative Party and raises questions about his receipt of a Royal Warrant of Appointment from King Charles despite allegations of offshore tax fraud.<\/p>\n
Peter Frankental, Director of Economic Affairs at Amnesty International, called for corporations like JCB to be held accountable for enabling human rights abuses, emphasizing the need for governments to prioritize human rights over profit.
