New Delhi: In pursuit of the ongoing campaign to erase Muslim contributions, the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government has renamed a government school in Dhamupur village after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, removing the name of 1965 war hero Veer Abdul Hameed.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the move has triggered outrage from Abdul Hameed\u2019s family and opposition leaders, who condemned the action as an insult to the soldier\u2019s legacy and a reflection of the ruling party\u2019s discriminatory policies.<\/p>\n
The grandson of Veer Abdul Hameed criticized the move stating that the school was named in honour of his grandfather\u2019s supreme sacrifice for India. He argued that the officials arbitrarily changed the school\u2019s name, which he termed as an insult to the \u201chero\u201d.<\/p>\n
Congress leaders including social activist and Member of the Lok Sabha Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan have come down heavily on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party accusing them of excluding Muslim fighters intentionally who fought for independence and during wartime battles.<\/p>\n
The opposition leaders said this action represents the BJP\u2019s ideological plan to adjust historical records that fit with their political narrative.<\/p>\n
While taking to an X, Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi wrote, \u201cIt is reprehensible that the Ghazipur education department has changed the name of the Paramveer Chakra winner Veer Abdul Hamid School. Today I spoke to Veer Abdul Hamid Sahib\u2019s family on the phone. Earlier, such an attempt has been made by the school\u2019s headmaster. The government is requested to at least save the school where Abdul Hamid studied till the 5th as a memorial of his memories.
