{"id":169700,"date":"2025-02-23T17:54:41","date_gmt":"2025-02-23T12:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/?p=169700"},"modified":"2025-02-23T17:54:41","modified_gmt":"2025-02-23T12:54:41","slug":"handicapped-association-members-detained-after-their-protest-march-in-srinagar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/2025\/02\/23\/handicapped-association-members-detained-after-their-protest-march-in-srinagar.html","title":{"rendered":"Handicapped association members detained after their protest march in Srinagar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-169701 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/assests\/2025\/02\/Handicap-Association-Protest.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"824\" height=\"549\" \/>Srinagar: Indian police today detained several members of Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association (JKHA) after they took out a protest march in Srinagar, occupied Jammu and Kashmir, against the authorities&#8217; failure to improve the lives of the disabled.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kashmir Media Service, dozens of members of the JKHA assembled near the Press Enclave in Srinagar holding banners and raising slogans, and called for an immediate government action for the welfare of the disabled community in the territory.<\/p>\n<p>They demanded launching of a special recruitment drive for qualified disabled persons, and enhancement in the monthly pension from Rs 1000 to Rs 5000.<\/p>\n<p>They also demanded low-interest loans covered in subsidies and vertical reservation in jobs.<\/p>\n<p>The demands also included four per cent reservation in MGNREGA work as well as in assemblies, municipalities, and panchayats.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters also demanded setting up of an advisory board for their socio-economic development, and opening of separate counters for them in government offices and banks.<\/p>\n<p>They tried to take out the march on the main road outside the Press Enclave, but were stopped by police, and several of them were detained.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Srinagar: Indian police today detained several members of Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association (JKHA) after they took out a protest march in Srinagar, occupied Jammu and Kashmir, against the authorities&#8217; failure to improve the lives of the disabled.
