However, by 2023, wildfires had destroyed 112 hectares. The Forest Survey of India (FSI), which monitors wildfires, reported 284 large fires in IIOJK in 2024, with 23 fires recorded in the first two months of 2025. Some of these fires have remained active for an entire year, spanning from 2024 into 2025.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025 so far, January recorded 17 major fire incidents, and February saw 6.<\/p>\n<p>As per the FSI data, Reasi district reported the highest number of major forest fires, with 6 incidents in the first two months of 2025, followed by Ramban with 4, and 3 each in Pulwama and Kishtwar. Udhampur, Doda, and Rajouri each reported 2 incidents, while one fire incident was reported in Poonch district.<\/p>\n<p>Locals blame Indian occupation troops for the rising incidents of fire, especially in the forest areas.
