Srinagar: Petitions challenging the validity of controversial amendments to the Jammu & Kashmir Reservation Rules will be heard by a division bench of the High Court of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir on March 7, 2025.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the case is scheduled to appear as item number 3 on the Regular Cause list before a bench comprising Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Puneet Gupta.<\/p>\n

The petitioners have raised concerns over changes made to the Reservation Rules of 2005, arguing that the amendments significantly alter the distribution of reserved and open merit seats in government recruitment and educational institutions across the region.<\/p>\n

According to the petition, the amendments reduce the percentage of open merit seats from 57 percent to 33 percent, while also decreasing the allocation for Residents of Backward Areas (RBA) from 20 percent to 10 percent.<\/p>\n

The petitioners, who represent several groups aggrieved by the amendments, seek the intervention of the High Court to declare specific rules under the Jammu & Kashmir Reservation Rules, 2005 as ultra vires of the Constitution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
