\"\"Imphal: The Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), representing Kuki Christians, has rejected Indian Home Minister Amit Shah\u2019s directive for forces\u2019 personnel to ensure free movement across Manipur for all communities starting March 8. The COTU reiterated its demand for a separate administration for Kuki-majority areas to resolve the ongoing conflict with the Hindu majority Meitei community.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a review of the security situation in Manipur, two weeks after President\u2019s rule was imposed, Amit Shah had called for “strict action” against any attempts to obstruct free movement.<\/p>\n

Ethnic violence had divided the state sharply since May 2023, resulting in Hindu majority Meiteis and Christian dominated Kuki-Zos claiming territory for themselves.<\/p>\n

During a COTU meeting, the group passed eight resolutions, including a firm stance against free movement in Kuki-Zo areas until a resolution that aligns with their aspirations is reached. The organization emphasized that it would not compromise on its demand for a separate administration in Kuki-majority areas to end the conflict.<\/p>\n

COTU vowed to continue the fight for a separate territory through protests, mobilization, and democratic resistance. They also declared that anyone prioritizing personal interests or collaborating with the government would be considered a traitor.<\/p>\n

Amit Shah\u2019s directive to complete \u201cfencing work on both sides of the designated entry points along Manipur\u2019s international border\u201d with Myanmar has also invited renewed protests from the Mizo, Naga and Kuki-Zo communities who populate the areas along the 1,643-kilometre-long border with Myanmar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
