He responded sharply to BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Sunil Sharma\u2019s remarks regarding the martyrs of July 13, 1931, expressing dismay at the statement and underscoring the importance of understanding historical facts. Tariqami also condemned the BJP-led government&#8217;s decision to separate Ladakh from occupied Jammu and Kashmir, revoke its statehood, and reduce it to a Union Territory.<\/p>\n<p>The CPI (M) leader raised serious concerns about the legal legitimacy of the Lieutenant Governor, questioning how an appointed official could authentically represent the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Tariqami demanded a precedent where a state had been downgraded to a Union Territory and challenged the notion of an unelected governor being capable of truly representing the citizens of IIOJK.<\/p>\n<p>Tariqami clarified that the territory\u2019s residents were not seeking charity but rather the restoration of their inherent rights and dignity.
