{"id":170344,"date":"2025-03-06T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-06T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/?p=170344"},"modified":"2025-03-06T14:49:01","modified_gmt":"2025-03-06T09:49:01","slug":"fo-rejects-indian-fms-baseless-claims-on-ajk-asks-to-vacate-occupied-kashmir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/2025\/03\/06\/fo-rejects-indian-fms-baseless-claims-on-ajk-asks-to-vacate-occupied-kashmir.html","title":{"rendered":"FO rejects Indian FM\u2019s \u2018baseless claims\u2019 on AJK, asks to vacate occupied Kashmir"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-170345\" src=\"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/assests\/2025\/03\/0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"297\" height=\"170\" \/>Islamabad: The Foreign Office (FO) on Thursday rejected remarks made by India\u2019s foreign minister on Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) as \u201cbaseless claims\u201d while asking his country to vacate occupied areas of the territory.<\/p>\n<p>The statement comes a day after India\u2019s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, speaking during a session at the Chatham House think-tank in London on Wednesday, referring to AJK, said the Kashmir dispute would be solved after the \u201creturn of the stolen part of Kashmir which is under illegal Pakistani occupation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to those statements during a weekly press briefing on Thursday, FO spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said: \u201cInstead of making baseless claims about Azad Jammu and Kashmir, India should vacate the large territories of Jammu and Kashmir under its occupation from the last 77 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe reject the remarks made by the Indian external affairs minister on Jammu and Kashmir during an event held at Chatham House, London, on 5th March 2025,\u201d Shafqat stated.<\/p>\n<p>Noting that India illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir was an internationally recognised disputed territory, the FO official said Jaishankar\u2019s remarks \u201cmisrepresent the ground realities and contravene the international law\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe relevant UN Security Council resolutions stipulate that the final status of Jammu and Kashmir is to be determined through a free and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices. India\u2019s prevarication cannot change this reality,\u201d Shafqat asserted.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the Indian minister\u2019s claims about the elections held in IIOJK last year, the FO spokesperson said: \u201cWe also wish to underscore that any electoral exercise pursuant to the Indian constitution cannot serve as a substitute to grant of right to self-determination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FO official said India \u201cmust realise that a peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people is imperative for a lasting peace in South Asia\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Islamabad: The Foreign Office (FO) on Thursday rejected remarks made by India\u2019s foreign minister on Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) as \u201cbaseless claims\u201d while asking his country to vacate occupied areas of the territory.
