A serving Indian Navy officer, Jadhav was assigned a terror mission by RAW in 2013. His confessions, documents, and evidence unveiled India\u2019s covert operations against Pakistan. He was apprehended on March 3, 2016 from Mashkhel, Balochistan.<\/p>\n
Pakistan informed India about the arrest on March 25.<\/p>\n
Operating under the alias Hussein Mubarak Patel, he entered Pakistan through Iran. His mission was to fuel terrorism and sectarian violence, sabotage CPEC, incite sectarian riots in Karachi, and orchestrate terror attacks in Sindh.<\/p>\n
INDIA’S DENIAL<\/p>\n
However, India claimed that he was kidnapped from Iran, where he was running a business in the port city of Chabahar after getting a \u201cpremature retirement\u201d from the Navy. The Indian government denied any links with him.<\/p>\n
A Field General Court Martial in Pakistan sentenced him to death on April 10, 2017. India moved the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which stayed the execution on May 18 pending the final judgement on the case.<\/p>\n
On July 17, 2019, the ICJ rejected India’s appeal for Jadhav’s release and ordered Pakistan to suspend the execution. It ruled that Pakistan will have to review the entire process of trial and conviction of Jadhav and provide India with consular access. Pakistan allowed one Indian consular visit to Jadhav, but subsequent visits have been denied.<\/p>\n
On September 2, 2019, Indian Charge d’ Affaires Gaurav Ahluwalia met Jadhav at a Pakistani prison.<\/p>\n
THE CONFESSION<\/p>\n
Almost a month after his arrest, Pakistan released a video of Jadhav “confessing” to being a spy. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs, however, rejected the video saying it was doctored and fake.<\/p>\n
Jadhav admitted in the video that he had been directing various activities in Karachi and Balochistan and that he was still a serving Indian Navy officer.<\/p>\n
WHO IS KULBHUSHAN JADHAV?<\/p>\n
Jadhav was born in Sangli, Maharashtra, on April 16, 1970 to Sudhir and Avanti Jadhav. His father was a retired Mumbai Police officer. He is married and has two children. His family resides in Powai, Mumbai.<\/p>\n
According to Jadhav, he joined the Indian National Defence Academy in 1987 and was commissioned in the engineering branch of the Indian Navy in 1991.<\/p>\n
He revealed to Pakistani investigators that he began to gather information and intelligence within India after the 2001 attack on the Parliament. After 14 years of service, he was inducted into intelligence operations in 2003 and established a small business in Chabahar in Iran from where he made several undetected visits to Karachi and Balochistan.<\/p>\n
