{"id":178667,"date":"2025-07-09T12:15:31","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T07:15:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/?p=178667"},"modified":"2025-07-09T12:15:31","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T07:15:31","slug":"178667","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/2025\/07\/09\/178667.html","title":{"rendered":"X raises concern over press censorship in India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-178683\" src=\"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/assests\/2025\/07\/w.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"345\" height=\"208\" \/>Washington: Elon Musk-owned social media platform X has rejected the Indian government&#8217;s claim regarding the blocking of Reuters\u2019 account stating that the company had received orders on July 3 to block 2,355 accounts, including that of the news agency.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kashmir Media Service, along with Reuters and Reuters World, the X accounts of China\u2019s Global Times and Turkey\u2019s public broadcaster TRT News were also withheld in India\u2014reportedly since the night of July 5\u2014in response to what X described as a &#8220;legal demand.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The [Indian] Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology demanded immediate action- within one hour- without providing justification, and required the accounts to remain blocked until further notice,\u201d X stated via its Global Government Affairs handle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are deeply concerned about ongoing press censorship in India due to these blocking orders. X is exploring all legal options available. Unlike users located in India, X is restricted by Indian law in its ability to bring legal challenges against these executive orders. We urge affected users to pursue legal remedies through the courts,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a demand for blocking Reuters\u2019 X account alongside several hundreds of other accounts was made during Operation Sindoor.<\/p>\n<p>It must be recollected that The Wire was among news outlets whose webpages or social media accounts were blocked at that time.
