\"\"Srinagar: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin has strongly condemned the recent developments in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK), terming them a grim reminder of the worsening state of democratic rights in the territory.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, Stalin expressed these remarks over police restrictions placed on IOJK Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to prevent him from visiting the Martyrs\u2019 Graveyard at Naqshband Sahid in Srinagar to pay respects to martyrs of July 13, 1931.<\/p>\n

Condemning the action in a post on X, MK Stalin said, \u201cAt a time when there is a growing demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir\u2019s statehood, the current events unfolding there are a grim reminder of how far things have deteriorated\u201d.<\/p>\n

Criticizing the reported treatment of Omar Abdullah, he wrote, \u201cThe elected Chief MInister is placed under house arrest simply for wanting to pay homage to the 1931 martyrs and is forced to climb walls to do so. Is this how an elected representative should be treated?\u201d<\/p>\n

Stalin emphasized, \u201cThis is not just about one state or one leader. From Tamil Nadu to Kashmir, the Union [Indian] BJP Government is systematically stripping away the rights of elected State Governments\u201d.<\/p>\n

He concluded, \u201cIf this can happen in Kashmir, it can happen anywhere, to any elected representative of the people\u201d. \u201cEvery democratic voice must unequivocally condemn this,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
