London: Speakers at a special Kashmir Martyrs Conference held in Manchester, UK, paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IOJK) and pledged to continue advocating for the Kashmiris\u2019 right to self-determination as enshrined in the United Nations Security Council resolutions.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the conference was organized by the Jammu Kashmir Self Determination Movement International (JKSDMI) to commemorate the sacrifices of the martyrs of July 13, 1931. 22 unarmed Kashmiris were martyred outside Srinagar Central Jail on July 13, 1931, while peacefully protesting the oppressive rule of the Dogra regime. Their sacrifice is remembered annually as a symbol of resilience and the cornerstone of Kashmir\u2019s modern resistance movement.<\/p>\n
The event was presided over by Councillor Yasmine Dar, former Lord Mayor of Manchester and Chairperson of the International Lobby on Kashmir. Chief Guests included Senator Dr Mohammad Humayun Mohmand from Pakistan and Chaudhary Ali Akbar, Minister from Azad Jammu & Kashmir.<\/p>\n
Sardar Abdur Rahman Khan, Patron of JKSDMI, opened the session with a detailed briefing on the historic event of 13th July 1931 and highlighted its enduring significance for the Kashmiri freedom struggle.<\/p>\n
Addressing the audience, JKSDMI founding chairman, Raja Najabat Hussain announced the launch of Kashmir Week, which began on 11th July in Bradford and includes a series of public engagement events in Halifax, Accrington, Oldham, Manchester, Bradford, and upcoming sessions at the British Parliament (15th\u201316th July), concluding in Birmingham on 19th July. He emphasised that these activities are being carried out with the active support of councillors, Lord Mayors, parliamentarians, and the British Pakistani and Kashmiri communities to amplify the voice of Kashmiris living under occupation.<\/p>\n
Among others, the conference was attended by Councillor Shaukat, Deputy Lord Mayor of Manchester; Councillor Abid Latif Chohan, former Lord Mayor of Manchester; Professor Tamoor Shafique, Secretary General, International Lobby on Kashmir. Leaders from political and community circles also joined.<\/p>\n
The event concluded with a collective reaffirmation of JKSDMI\u2019s mission to keep the Kashmir cause alive in the international arena and strengthen global solidarity with the people of IOJK in their ongoing freedom struggle.
