{"id":179251,"date":"2025-07-17T16:00:15","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T11:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/?p=179251"},"modified":"2025-07-17T16:00:15","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T11:00:15","slug":"iojk-chapter-congress-protests-against-proposed-toll-plaza-near-akhnoor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/2025\/07\/17\/iojk-chapter-congress-protests-against-proposed-toll-plaza-near-akhnoor.html","title":{"rendered":"IOJK chapter Congress protests against proposed toll plaza near Akhnoor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-179252 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/assests\/2025\/07\/akhnoor-cong-294x220.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"294\" height=\"220\" \/>Jammu: Indian National Congress chapter in occupied Jammu and Kashmir held a protest demonstration at Malpur near Akhnoor against the proposed toll plaza on Jammu-Akhnoor-Poonch highway.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kashmir Media Service, led by senior leader and former MLA Thakur Balwan Singh, Congress activists raised slogans against the BJP-led central government for imposing huge taxes on the common people in Jammu region.<\/p>\n<p>Former MLA Balbir Singh, chief spokesperson of National Congress chapter in occupied Jammu and Kashmir Ravinder Sharma, senior party leader Neeraj Gupta and block presidents Jang Bahadur Sharma and Chowdhary Babu Khan also joined the protest.<\/p>\n<p>They demanded rollback of the decision to install a toll plaza at the site which, they alleged, \u201cwas against the norms and the interests of the common people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the occasion, Balwan Singh and others said that the Indian BJP government was fleecing the people of Jammu region by installing toll plazas at number of places against the norms and the guidelines laid down by the High Courts and the Supreme Court in this regard, as the highway was under construction at number of places between Akhnoor-Sunderbani-Rajouri and Poonch.<\/p>\n<p>They charged the BJP with \u201clooting the people of Jammu region by imposing toll tax at a number of places and charging toll even on the incomplete road projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Balwan Singh questioned the BJP, its MPs and 28 MLAs for maintaining criminal silence over the plight of the people of Jammu after taking huge mandates on false promises to the people. He asked the people to make them accountable and answerable.
