The judge acknowledged in his verdict that both men had voluntarily appeared before the court after learning about the case. He also admitted that the convicts had surrendered, and had dependent family members.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these considerations, the court still awarded the duo concurrent sentences of life imprisonment under Section 302 RPC and ten years under Section 364 RPC.<\/p>\n<p>Legal experts have condemned the verdict, stating that Kashmiri youth continue to be targeted under the guise of law by Indian legal and military institutions. They said such long-pending cases are weaponized to punish political dissent and crush pro-freedom sentiments.
