Guwahati: Nine Muslims of Bengali origin, including the son of an Assam Police constable, have been detained in Gurugram on suspicion of being undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, Sannat Ali, a constable in the Assam Industrial Security Force, stated that his 23-year-old son, Ashraful Islam, a resident of Barbala village in Barpeta district, had recently started working at a construction site in Sector 10A, Gurugram area of Haryana.<\/p>\n

Ali said his son and eight others from Barpeta were picked up by police while working at the site. He added that Ashraful had submitted valid identification documents, including his voter ID card, school certificates, Aadhaar card, and PAN card, but the police refused to accept them. \u201cThey call them illegal Bangladeshis,\u201d Ali said.<\/p>\n

A police official, without confirming the exact number of detainees, stated, \u201cThe process to verify their documents is ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier, on July 13 and 14, 26 Bengali-speaking individuals from Assam were also detained in Gurugram under similar suspicions. They were released after their documents were verified.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
