On this day in 2019, the Modi government launched a malicious assault on Kashmir’s special status, as well as the identity, culture, and heritage of its people.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC-AJK announced that August 5 will once again be observed as “Youm-e-Istehsaal-e-Kashmir” (Day of Exploitation of Kashmir) to protest India’s aggressive actions.

In a joint statement issued in Islamabad, the APHC-AJK convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi and other leaders, including, Muhammad Farooq Rahmani, Mahmood Ahmed Saghar, Syed Yousuf Naseem, Advocate Parvez Ahmed Shah, Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, Altaf Hussain Wani, Shameem Shawl, Muhammad Hussain Khateeb, Mir Tahir Masood, Nisar Mirza, Haji Muhammad Sultan, Sheikh Yaqub, Sheikh Abdul Mateen, Raja Shaheen, Javed Iqbal, Sheikh Majid, Ashraf Dar, Mian Muzaffar, Hassanul Bana, Dawood Khan, Zahid Safi, Abdul Majeed Lone, Ijaz Rahmani, Chaudhary Shaheen Iqbal, Syed Gulshan Ahmed, Manzoor Ahmed Dar, Mushtaq Hussain, Zahid Ashraf, Adeel Wani, Nazir Karnai, Mirza Mushtaq Ahmed, Sanaullah Dar, Muhammad Rafiq Dar, Syed Kifayat Rizvi, and Imtiaz Wani, condemned the Modi government’s blatant assault on Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional, historical, and legal status. They noted that the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A and the bifurcation of IIOJK into two union territories blatantly violated international law and United Nations resolutions, laying bare New Delhi’s colonial ambitions in the territory.

The statement highlighted that to suppress Kashmiri dissent against the illegal actions of August 5, the Modi regime imposed a complete military siege in the territory and stripped Kashmiris of fundamental rights, including freedom of expression. The leaders warned that the ultimate aim behind these actions is to reduce the Muslim majority in occupied Jammu and Kashmir to a minority, facilitated by issuing domicile certificates to hundreds of thousands of Indian Hindus.

Despite this, the APHC-AJK leaders affirmed that the Kashmiris remain determined to frustrate India’s malicious designs and continue their freedom struggle with renewed resolve and courage. They called on the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and international human rights organizations to take notice of India’s ongoing atrocities and gross human rights violations, urging them to support Kashmiris’ legitimate right to self-determination.

The leaders also appealed to Kashmiris living abroad and Pakistanis to organize peaceful protests, rallies, and other activities on August 5 to mark “Youm-e-Istehsaal-e-Kashmir”.

Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has declared August 5 as a deeply tragic day in Kashmir’s recent history.
