Srinagar: Panic gripped Daferpora village in Pulwama district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir after several residents fell ill due to contaminated drinking water supplied by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, locals said Daferpora, a small hamlet with around 40 households, has seen nearly 30 households affected in recent days. Most patients are suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting.<\/p>\n

Residents say the water supply scheme in the area, constructed in 2002, has been neglected for over two decades. \u201cThe main water storage tank has never been cleaned since it was installed. We have been drinking from the same unclean source all these years. This negligence is now directly affecting our health,\u201d said Ghulam Nabi, a local resident.<\/p>\n

Another villager, Abdul Rashid, said repeated pleas to clean the tank and improve supply have fallen on deaf ears. \u201cThe government promised us a new water scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Land was identified and pipes were brought here, but the work never started. It is sheer negligence and indifference towards our suffering,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A senior health official confirmed that a medical team had visited the village to treat patients and conduct awareness sessions. \u201cSo far, 16 people have fallen ill.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
