Geneva: India suffered yet another embarrassment on the international stage, while Pakistan achieved another significant success after being entrusted with the chairmanship of a key United Nations meeting.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Pakistan\u2019s Federal Minister for Climate Change, Senator Dr Musadik Malik, presided over the session of the United Nations Environment Programme\u2019s (UNEP) Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution in Geneva. His appointment had been endorsed by 46 countries ahead of the meeting.<\/p>\n
Irritated by Pakistan\u2019s leadership, the Indian delegation staged a walkout. However, their move went largely unnoticed as no member state paid heed to the protest.<\/p>\n
In his address, Senator Musadik Malik emphasized that developed nations must not assume that developing countries are voiceless. He called for a clear and comprehensive global framework to address pollution, stressing that deforestation must also remain a priority.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that developed countries are the largest producers of plastic pollution, yet unwilling to provide adequate funding, while developing nations lack the resources to cope with the mounting climate crisis. The minister urged developed countries to establish a global fund for plastic recycling.<\/p>\n
