Washington: The United States has said it monitors developments between Pakistan and India \u201cevery single day,\u201d acknowledging that ceasefires between the two nuclear-armed neighbours can collapse quickly if not maintained.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in an interview with NBC\u2019s Meet the Press, said, \u201cEvery single day we keep an eye on what\u2019s happening between Pakistan and India\u2026 ceasefires can fall apart very quickly.\u201d He emphasized that the ultimate goal should be a peace deal to prevent future wars.<\/p>\n
In a separate interview with Fox Business, Rubio referred to the recent India-Pakistan conflict that former US President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed he helped defuse. Rubio said the Trump administration \u201cmade peace and its achievement a priority,\u201d citing India-Pakistan among examples where Washington worked to reduce tensions.<\/p>\n
Since May 10, when Trump announced that India and Pakistan had agreed to a \u201cfull and immediate\u201d ceasefire after a \u201clong night\u201d of US-mediated talks, he has reiterated more than 40 times that he played a direct role in stopping hostilities, even warning that the confrontation risked turning nuclear.<\/p>\n
However, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s government has publicly denied US involvement. Modi told Parliament that no leader had asked India to halt \u201cOperation Sindoor,\u201d while External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar rejected any suggestion of third-party mediation or trade linkage to the ceasefire.<\/p>\n
Despite New Delhi\u2019s denial, Trump has continued to assert that his administration prevented a potentially catastrophic escalation between Pakistan and India.
