Gurugram: A young Kashmiri shawl seller was assaulted inside a residential society in Gujarat\u2019s Gurugram Housing society while trying to earn his livelihood.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, a video of the incident, that has gone viral, shows the youth beaten up and the attacker accusing him of \u201cbarging\u201d into the society without permission.<\/p>\n
As per reports, the youth was beaten and harassed, reportedly targeted solely because of his religious identity.<\/p>\n
The incident has left him traumatized and sparked outrage on social media.<\/p>\n
Several users on social media questioned the role of the society\u2019s security guards, accusing them of failing to protect the victim and instead allowing the assault to take place. \u201cA young Kashmiri Muslim youth, trying to earn a livelihood, was allegedly beaten and harassed just because he is Muslim. But don\u2019t call this terrorism,\u201d wrote Mohammed Haroon.<\/p>\n
Political voices also condemned the assault. Muzaffar Shah, senior vice-president of the Awami National Conference, said, \u201cThis is not just an attack on a Kashmiri Muslim youth in Gurugram but an attack on our shared humanity. We condemn this act of hatred and demand accountability from those who failed to protect him. Hate cannot define our nation, not anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
