Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities have issued an urgent advisory asking residents of seven localities in Srinagar to evacuate to safer places after a breach was reported in the embankment at Shalina in Budgam district.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the District Administration Srinagar said residents of Lasjan, Soiteng, Nowgam, Vyethpora, Gopalpora, Padshahibagh and Mehjoor Nagar have been advised to move immediately to safer areas. Announcements were made through masjids, local committees and revenue and police authorities early Thursday morning to alert the residents.<\/p>\n

The authorities urged people to stay vigilant but not to panic, stressing that the advisory was precautionary in nature to minimize risks amid the flood-like situation caused by incessant rains.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Irrigation and Flood Control Department reported that the water level in river Jhelum had breached the danger mark near Sangam and Ram Munshi Bagh. At 5:00 am today, the river was flowing at 27.48 feet against the danger mark of 20 feet at Sangam, and 22.31 feet against the danger mark of 21 feet at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar. Earlier at 2:00 am, the level was recorded at 27.64 feet at Sangam and 22.37 feet at Ram Munshi Bagh.<\/p>\n
