Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), a constituent of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has strongly condemned the refusal of bail to its President, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, despite his worsening health condition.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Supreme Court of India on Thursday refused interim bail to Shabbir Ahmed Shah despite his deteriorating health in a case filed by the notorious National Investigation Agency. While issuing notice to the NIA on Shah\u2019s plea against fabricated charges, the top court ignored appeals for urgent medical relief.<\/p>\n
DFP Spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal in a statement in Srinagar criticized the Indian judiciary, saying that its decisions appear politically influenced rather than based on justice. He noted that Shabbir Shah has faced unproven charges since 1968, and even after eight years in Delhi\u2019s Tihar Jail, no court has substantiated the allegations against him.<\/p>\n
The spokesman said that denial of bail is being used as a deliberate tactic to extend the unlawful detention of Kashmiri political prisoners. He asserted that Shabbir Shah and other Hurriyat leaders are being punished solely for advocating peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute and for voicing the concerns of the oppressed Kashmiri people.<\/p>\n
Commending Shabbir Shah\u2019s resilience, the DFP noted that he has spent more than half of his life in prison due to his political beliefs. The party urged international human rights organizations to intervene, citing Shah\u2019s fragile health and multiple ailments.<\/p>\n
The statement concluded with a warning to India: “Kashmiris cannot be cowed down through such repressive measures.”<\/p>\n
