Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has extended his greetings to the Muslims of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and around the world on the eve of \u201cEid Milad-un-Nabi\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressing the Friday prayer congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar today said, “Our devotion and love for the Holy Prophet should not be limited to mere words, but we should fully follow his teachings.” He severely criticized the occupying Indian administration for changing the date of the Eid Milad-un-Nabi holiday. He said that our true love and respect for the Prophet Muhammad is not shown in words alone but must be reflected in following his noble teachings of truth, compassion, and service to humanity.<\/p>\n

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the recent flood scare should serve as a reminder to both people and authorities. “As a community, we have failed by encroaching upon flood channels and filling wetlands and narrowing the natural safeguards,” he added.<\/p>\n

The authorities, he said, too have failed by not carrying out timely dredging of the Jhelum, neglecting embankments, and ignoring comprehensive flood management despite the painful lessons of 2014. Without such measures, even moderate rainfall causes waterlogging and submergence, he remarked.<\/p>\n

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stressed that dredging the Jhelum is essential to clear the silt caused by erosion, to restore the river\u2019s depth and flow, to regulate the extraction of sand for construction in a sustainable way, and even to revive the river\u2019s historic role as a navigable waterway connecting the Valley.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Mirwaiz urged people to help each other in these trying days, standing by those whose homes and fields have been damaged.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz strongly criticised the authorities, who for the second consecutive year have failed to reschedule the holiday of Milad-un-Nabi in accordance with the actual date, which is tomorrow and showing utter disregard for the sentiments of Muslim community on this revered occasion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
