Ranchi: In India, Jharkhand Health Minister and senior Congress leader Dr Irfan Ansari has said that he received a death threat following his strong criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), exposing once again the atmosphere of fear and intimidation created by the saffron party against its political opponents, particularly Muslim leaders.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr Ansari told reporters that he received the threat call from Uttar Pradesh. The caller warned him, \u201cYou act like a big leader, I am coming, I will blow you up.\u201d The minister said he immediately informed police, and his security has since been stepped up.<\/p>\n
Blaming the BJP for the attempt to silence his voice, Dr Ansari said, \u201cThe BJP has made my life miserable. They are trying to frighten me so that I stop speaking the truth. But I will not bow down.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added that BJP leaders routinely target him with communal taunts, even saying he should be \u201csent to Bangladesh.\u201d<\/p>\n
The minister came under attack from BJP after a video surfaced in which he was heard saying he would \u201cdig the graves of BJP leaders.\u201d He clarified that the remark was twisted by the ruling party to divert attention from real issues such as health, education and development.<\/p>\n
\u201cInstead of working for the people, BJP thrives on spreading hate and trying to divide society,\u201d Ansari said. \u201cThey want to erase the identity of Muslims in India, but we are sons of this soil and will not be silenced.\u201d<\/p>\n
Congress leaders and supporters condemned the threat call, accusing the BJP of targeting Muslim politicians to weaken their political influence. One of Ansari\u2019s supporters said outside his residence, \u201cThis threat is just another attempt to silence him, but our leader will not bow down.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police have confirmed the call originated from Uttar Pradesh and said investigations are underway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
