According to Kashmir Media Service, the order issued by the Additional District Magistrate prohibits assemblies, sloganeering, speeches and carrying of sticks or sharp-edged weapons across the district. The Senior Superintendent of Police has been directed to ensure strict enforcement, while violations will be dealt with under harsh punitive provisions.<\/p>\n

The clampdown comes after massive protests erupted in Doda and adjoining areas against Malik\u2019s arrest. Locals termed the detention of the elected legislator under PSA \u2014 which allows imprisonment without trial for up to two years \u2014 as a brazen assault on democracy and the political rights of the people. Political parties across the spectrum, including NC, PDP, and AAP leadership, have denounced the move as arbitrary and undemocratic.<\/p>\n

Observers noted that invoking PSA against a sitting legislator is unprecedented and exposes India\u2019s hollow claims of democracy in the occupied territory.
