Gandhinagar: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said Manipur has been in trouble for a long time and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s visit to the strife-torn state now is not a \u201cbig deal\u201d, insisting that the real challenge before the country today is \u201cvote chori\u201d (vote theft).<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, talking to reporters outside the Keshod airport in Junagadh district of Gujarat, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha stressed that the slogan \u201cvote chor\u201d (vote thief) is resonating everywhere in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cManipur has been in trouble for a long time and the PM [Modi] has decided to go there now. That\u2019s not a big deal. The main issue today in India is \u2018vote chori\u2019 (vote theft),\u201d Gandhi remarked.<\/p>\n

He said that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was subverting democracy in several states. \u201cThey stole the elections of Haryana and Maharashtra. We proved that in Karnataka recently. So, the main issue is vote theft. Everywhere people are raising \u2018vote chor\u2019 (vote thief) slogan,\u201d Gandhi said.<\/p>\n

Modi is scheduled to visit Manipur on tomorrow (Saturday), where he will meet internally displaced people in Churachandpur and state capital Imphal. This will be his first visit to Manipur since ethnic violence broke out in the state two years ago, claiming more than 260 lives, mostly Christians, and forcing thousands to flee their homes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
