New York: Pakistan\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, has said that India is responsible for the recent devastating floods in Pakistan, and urged the international community to intervene to stop New Delhi\u2019s water aggression.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing an important meeting at the UN Headquarters on the Indus Waters Treaty, Pakistan\u2019s water crisis, Asim Iftikhar said that floods in Pakistan had destroyed crops and displaced thousands of people. He stressed that India should not weaponize water against Pakistan.<\/p>\n
He noted that water security is one of the most pressing challenges of the modern era. India\u2019s violations of the Indus Waters Treaty, he said, have undermined the credibility of international assurances. \u201cUnder the law, India is bound to share water data with Pakistan as per the Indus Waters Treaty,\u201d he reminded, expressing confidence that the international community would stand with Pakistan at this critical moment.<\/p>\n
Separately, Pakistan\u2019s envoy addressed the UN Security Council meeting on the Middle East situation and strongly condemned Israel\u2019s aggression against Qatar. He said that Israel\u2019s attack on Doha had undermined peace efforts and constituted a blatant violation of international law. Asim Iftikhar also made it clear that Pakistan supports a peaceful and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.<\/p>\n
Asim Iftikhar stressed that Israel\u2019s unprovoked assault on Qatar was a violation of both international norms and Qatar\u2019s sovereignty. He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during his recent visit, had expressed complete solidarity with the leadership and people of Qatar.<\/p>\n
