Geneva: A Kashmiri delegation at the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council held a strong protest outside the UN office in Geneva, condemning the grave human rights violations committed by New Delhi in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest, attended by delegation members and individuals from diverse backgrounds, highlighted the dire situation in the occupied territory. Speakers urged the UN Human Rights Council to take immediate action to halt further bloodshed and safeguard civilian rights.<\/p>\n
Attention was drawn to thousands of Kashmiris imprisoned across India and IIOJK, including Hurriyat leaders, activists, youth, civil society members, lawyers, students, journalists, and human rights defenders. The delegation also condemned India\u2019s alarming efforts to alter the territory\u2019s demographic makeup, calling on the UN to take notice of this alarming development.<\/p>\n
Referring to blanket ban imposed by India\u2019s Ministry of Home Affairs on more than a dozen political parties, the speakers said the authoritarian move was a deliberate attempt to stifle political and democratic dissent in Kashmir.<\/p>\n
They described India\u2019s illegal presence in occupied Jammu and Kashmir as the biggest threat to regional peace and called upon the UN and international community to actively work towards resolving the longstanding Kashmir dispute.<\/p>\n
Speakers included APHC-AJK Convener Ghulam Mohammad Safi, former AJK Minister Chaudhry Pervez Ashraf, KIIR Chairman Altaf Hussain Wani, KIIR Executive Director Sardar Amjad Yousuf, Advocate Pervez Shah, Dr. Raja Sajjad, Mrs Shamim Shawl , Dr Muzmil Ayub Thakur, Dr. Shagufata Ashraf, Mirza Asif Jarral, Ali Raza Syed and others.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Kashmiri delegation also held a cultural exhibition outside the UN office showcasing Kashmiri art and crafts that, they said, face existential threat under Indian occupation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
