The party said that New Delhi is ignoring the urgent needs of the people in IIOJK while showing preferential treatment to Indian states hit by similar calamities.

According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing a press conference at the party office in Jammu, senior Congress leaders, including Raman Bhalla, Ravinder Sharma, Mula Ram, Ved Mahajan, and Choudhary Hussain Ali Waffa, questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi has yet to visit IIOJK or announce a relief package comparable to those provided for Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.

“The Prime Minister has neither visited [IIOJK] nor announced any relief measures similar to other states. Why is this step-motherly treatment continuing?” the leaders said.

They strongly condemned the delay in reopening the Srinagar-Jammu Highway, which has severely impacted the fruit industry, transporters, and traders, causing losses amounting to crores of rupees. “The entire highway stretch in Jammu and the adjoining roads remain congested with loaded trucks, hampering trade and economic activities. Meanwhile, the full potential of the Mughal Road remains unexploited,” they added.

Highlighting the plight of farmers, the leaders noted that thousands of kanals of agricultural land and livestock, particularly of the tribal Gujjar-Bakerwal communities residing near rivers, were washed away. They also blamed administrative lapses for the extensive destruction in the Pargwal area of Akhnoor, where the failure to construct a 35-meter embankment along the Chenab River worsened the damage. “Shockingly, no expert committee has been formed to investigate these man-made failures,” they lamented.

The Congress leaders expressed great concern over the neglect of IIOJK by the Indian government so far. “The Prime Minister should visit here to make an assessment of damages personally and release a comprehensive package at the earliest without further delay,” they demanded.

Jammu: The Congress leadership in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has strongly condemned the Modi-led government for its blatant neglect of the territory, critisizing the prolonged delay in announcing a comprehensive relief package for the thousands affected by devastating flash floods and landslides.
