New York: The Kashmiri diaspora in the United States is preparing to hold a massive peaceful protest in front of the United Nations headquarters in New York on September 27, coinciding with the address of the Indian delegate to the UN General Assembly.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest is aimed at drawing global attention to the unresolved Kashmir dispute, which earlier this year brought India and Pakistan to the brink of nuclear confrontation. Speakers at a Zoom conference of Kashmiri community leaders emphasized that the world powers must reaffirm their commitment to the inalienable right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people and press for a just resolution of the long-pending dispute in accordance with UN resolutions.<\/p>\n

Participants of the meeting stressed the need for unity across party lines among Kashmiri Americans to ensure the protest has a strong impact. They underlined that only a united leadership can inspire the community to mobilize effectively in support of the Kashmir cause.<\/p>\n

It was decided that community leaders including Sardar Imtiaz Khan, Aftab Shah and Sardar Sajid Sawar will contact Kashmiri Americans and friends of Kashmir in New Jersey, while buses will be arranged from New Jersey, Brooklyn, Queens and Washington D.C. to facilitate participation.<\/p>\n

Dr Imtiaz Khan and Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai will coordinate with community members in the Washington metropolitan area.<\/p>\n

Organizers agreed to undertake extensive outreach, including personal phone calls across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Washington, alongside a robust social media campaign. Community centers will also be approached to maximize turnout for the demonstration, which aims to send a clear message to the world body about the urgency of resolving the Kashmir dispute.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
