Srinagar: National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah has said that running a government in Indian illegally ocupied Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory is akin to walking on the edge of a sword, but asserted that his party will not step back and will continue to move forward with commitment.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, talking to reporters in Srinagar, Farooq expressed optimism about the restoration of statehood, saying it remained the collective aspiration of the people. \u201cEvery person in Jammu and Kashmir is hopeful about it. We believe the Supreme Court will take note and restore the rights that were promised by the government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On the detention of Meraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA), the NC President maintained that the use of such harsh measures was unjustified. \u201cMeraj Malik used unparliamentary language out of anger, but slapping a PSA on him is wrong. This could have been resolved through dialogue and withdrawal of his words,\u201d Farooq remarked.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, political sources revealed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly pushing for the resignation of Omar Abdullah, aiming to trigger fresh elections in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
