{"id":184194,"date":"2025-09-24T10:15:41","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T05:15:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/?p=184194"},"modified":"2025-09-24T12:17:37","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T07:17:37","slug":"india-using-nia-to-target-sikh-diaspora-leaders-advocating-khalistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/2025\/09\/24\/india-using-nia-to-target-sikh-diaspora-leaders-advocating-khalistan.html","title":{"rendered":"India using NIA to target Sikh diaspora leaders advocating Khalistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-184196\" src=\"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/assests\/2025\/09\/ds.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"363\" height=\"207\" \/>New Delhi: In yet another attempt to muzzle dissenting voices abroad, the Modi-led Indian government has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to register a fresh case against US-based Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, General Counsel of the pro-Khalistan organization Sikhs For Justice (SFJ).<\/p>\n<p>According to Kashmir Media Service, the case was registered under black laws including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after Pannun, in a video address from Washington on August 10, urged Sikh soldiers to resist Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony at Delhi\u2019s Red Fort. He had earlier addressed a press briefing via video link during a \u201cMeet the Press\u201d event at the Lahore Press Club.<\/p>\n<p>The NIA\u2019s FIR accuses Pannun of announcing a reward of Rs 11 crore for Sikh soldiers who would prevent Modi from unfurling the tricolour. It further alleges that he unveiled a map of Khalistan, encompassing Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, while claiming that SFJ had constituted a \u201cShaheed Jatha\u201d to resist Indian rule.<\/p>\n<p>Indian Home Ministry\u2019s order to the NIA claims that Pannun\u2019s activities amount to \u201cspreading disaffection among Sikhs against India\u201d and \u201cthreatening its sovereignty and integrity.\u201d The order stresses that the matter has \u201cnational and international ramifications\u201d and must therefore be investigated by the NIA.<\/p>\n<p>Political observers point out that India has increasingly weaponized the NIA as a political tool of the BJP and RSS regime to silence voices of dissent, not only in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir but also against Sikh activists abroad who continue to expose New Delhi\u2019s excesses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Delhi: In yet another attempt to muzzle dissenting voices abroad, the Modi-led Indian government has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to register a fresh case against US-based Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, General Counsel of the pro-Khalistan organization Sikhs For Justice (SFJ).
