According to Kashmir Media Service, India\u2019s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the UNGA in Modi\u2019s place, invoking Sanskrit phrases of \u201cself-reliance, self-protection and self-confidence,\u201d while pointedly using the name \u201cBharat\u201d to underscore the Hindutva agenda of the ruling BJP.<\/p>\n
Analysts note that Modi\u2019s decision to stay away from New York was influenced by the optics of Pakistan\u2019s prime minister and army chief being seen in warm engagements with US President Donald Trump. Such visuals, they argue, would have undermined Modi\u2019s long-standing strategy of always coupling his UN visits with a bilateral meeting with the US President.<\/p>\n
