New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has accused Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of betraying the people of Ladakh and demanded an impartial judicial probe into the police firing that left four protesters dead, including a Kargil War veteran.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Rahul Gandhi, currently on a foreign tour, shared a video of the slain soldier Tsewang Tharchin\u2019s father on X. He wrote that \u201cpatriotism ran in their blood as both father and son served the Indian Army,\u201d yet the son was shot dead \u201csimply for demanding rights for Ladakh.\u201d Gandhi said the father\u2019s pain was a question to the entire nation, adding, \u201cIs this the reward for serving the country today?\u201d<\/p>\n
He demanded that the government order an impartial judicial inquiry and ensure the harshest punishment to those responsible for the killings. \u201cModi ji, you have betrayed the people of Ladakh. They are demanding their rights. Communicate with them\u2014stop the politics of violence and fear,\u201d Rahul said.<\/p>\n
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also launched a scathing attack on the BJP government, saying the killing of Tharchin was an insult to his service in the Kargil War and to the sacrifices of his family. Kharge said, \u201cThe father was in the army, the son was in the army, yet Tharchin received a bullet from the Modi government in Ladakh. When our 20 soldiers laid down their lives in Galwan, Modi gave China a clean chit. This is the BJP\u2019s hollow nationalism, which neither respects soldiers nor citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh termed the killing \u201ca matter of deepest anguish and outrage,\u201d stressing that Tharchin was protesting peacefully for Ladakh\u2019s constitutional safeguards when he was gunned down along with three others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
