New Delhi: The Indian National Congress has demanded the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the alarming rise in atrocities against Dalits, women and Muslims, accusing the BJP government of presiding over a total collapse of law and order in the state.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Chairman of the Congress Scheduled Caste Department Rajinder Pal Gautam and MP Imran Masood said criminals were operating with complete impunity in Uttar Pradesh. They also played a video showing the lynching of a Dalit youth in Raebareli, who was beaten to death in broad daylight.<\/p>\n
Gautam demanded Rs 1 crore in compensation for the victim\u2019s family and called for fast-track trials in similar cases. Citing National Crime Records Bureau data, he said atrocities against Dalits had risen by 75 percent across five BJP-ruled states, with Uttar Pradesh alone accounting for 26.2 percent of such cases.<\/p>\n
Imran Masood said that the Yogi government had completely failed to uphold constitutional and legal principles, instead promoting BJP\u2019s ideological rule. He accused the police of bias, saying Muslims were being publicly humiliated while Hindutva extremists were spared.<\/p>\n
Masood added that he was placed under virtual house arrest and barred from visiting Bareilly following recent violence.<\/p>\n
The Congress leaders said Rahul Gandhi had personally spoken to the victim\u2019s family, while Amethi MP KL Sharma and PCC president Ajay Rai visited them.
