\"\"Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has said the shoe attack on Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai inside the Supreme Court exposes the disturbing state of affairs in India under the BJP regime.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehbooba Mufti in a statement issued in Srinagar said the incident paints a \u201cchilling picture of BJP\u2019s Viksit Bharat [developed India],\u201d where attackers act with full confidence that they will face no real consequences. \u201cA shoe hurled at the Chief Justice offers a grim glimpse of what India under BJP\u2019s rule is becoming \u2014 a place where hate is rewarded, rapists are pardoned, and dissenters are jailed,\u201d she said in a post on X.<\/p>\n

She noted that the 71-year-old lawyer who attempted the act did so \u201cknowing he would be protected by the same system that silences voices of dissent like Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, who remain imprisoned without bail.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mehbooba said the episode raises an existential question for India\u2019s judiciary \u2014 whether it will defend the Constitution or \u201cremain silent as it is being trampled underfoot, quite literally.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that this was \u201cthe new normal in Godse\u2019s Bharat,\u201d where extremist elements operate with impunity under state patronage.
\nThe lawyer, identified as Rakesh Kishor, was restrained by security personnel after he allegedly tried to hurl a shoe at the CJI while shouting slogans in defence of \u201cSanatan Dharma.\u201d<\/p>\n
