London: The President of the World Kashmir Freedom Movement (WKFM), Dr Muzammil Ayyub Thakur, has written an open letter to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, urging him to confront India over its continued illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and ongoing war crimes against the Kashmiri people.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr Thakur, in his strongly-worded letter, reminded the British Prime Minister that while he leads a trade delegation to Mumbai to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India continues to commit \u201cwar crimes, crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, genocide, settler colonisation, and demographic change\u201d in the occupied territory.<\/p>\n
Dr Thakur drew a stark comparison between the UK\u2019s stance on Ukraine and its silence on Kashmir, saying: \u201cYour government professes to have moral clarity when it comes to Ukraine, yet the people of Kashmir see your meeting with Modi as a betrayal of your own ethics.\u201d He noted that while London condemns Russia\u2019s invasion, Modi maintains close ties with Moscow and has openly defied Western sanctions by continuing to purchase Russian oil.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you fail to question Modi\u2019s alliance with Russia or his crimes in Kashmir,\u201d Dr Thakur wrote, \u201cyou will not only be guilty of hypocrisy but complicit in India\u2019s actions \u2014 both in Ukraine and in occupied Kashmir.\u201d He warned that British trade deals with New Delhi would \u201cdirectly contribute to the annihilation of Kashmir and its people\u201d and embolden India\u2019s expansionist designs in South Asia, further destabilising the region.<\/p>\n
Referring to India\u2019s misadventure against Pakistan in May 2025, Dr Thakur said the West\u2019s appeasement of Modi\u2019s regime risks sparking wider regional instability. He called on the UK government to \u201cbreak India\u2019s cycle of violence or face the necessity of supporting Kashmiri resistance against a fascist, neo-colonial, expansionist regime intent on eradicating Kashmiri and Muslim identity \u2014 just as the UK supports Ukrainian resistance against its aggressor.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr Thakur reaffirmed that true peace and stability in South Asia will remain elusive until the people of Jammu and Kashmir are allowed to exercise their UN-mandated right to self-determination.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
